Chat screenshots
Stitch chat screenshots into one long image
A long chat is easier to read as one image than as eight. The repeated chrome — header, input bar, status bar — is exactly what this tool drops.
Why a chat screenshot is a stitching problem
You scroll, you capture, you scroll again. Every capture carries the same furniture: the conversation header, the input bar, the status bar, and the battery and clock. Stack eight of those and most of the image is furniture. The conversation itself is the thin strip in the middle that actually moved.
That strip is what QuoteStitch keeps. The repeated chrome sits in the same rows on every capture, so it does not score as a change and does not survive the first frame.
How to do it
- Capture each screen. Scroll a full screen at a time and take one screenshot per screen. Leave a little overlap so no message falls between two captures.
- Drop them in. Drag the batch in, or paste them. Filenames from a phone sort in capture order.
- Check the join. The preview shows where each capture contributes. If a message is duplicated at a seam, nudge the band or drop the overlapping capture.
- Export one PNG. 1x is usually right for a long thread. 2x is there if the text has to stay sharp when it is zoomed.
What to watch out for
- Timestamps move. A clock in the corner changes between captures, so it can score as content. Crop it out of the first frame before you export, or ignore it — it lands at the edge of the band, not in the middle.
- Dark mode and light mode do not mix. Captures from two themes stitch into a striped image. Keep one theme for the whole run.
- Very long threads. A hundred captures is a very tall image. Export at 1x, or split the thread into two images at a scene change.
These screenshots contain other people
A chat screenshot holds someone else’s messages, and often their name and photo. That is worth a thought before the file leaves your machine. QuoteStitch uploads nothing: the images are read in your browser, stitched in your browser, and never sent anywhere. There is no account, so there is nothing to attach them to. The privacy policy says the same thing in more detail.
When the phone already does this
The long-screenshot or scrolling-screenshot feature built into phones is the fastest option for a single conversation inside one app — you scroll and the phone captures as you go. It stops being an option in three situations.
- The content is not a native scroll view. In-app browsers, web views and embedded chat widgets are not native scroll views, so a scrolling capture has nothing to follow and you get one screen.
- You already have the screenshots. Once the captures exist, the built-in feature has nothing to do. That is the case this tool handles.
- You want to choose the seam. A scrolling capture decides where each screen ends. Here the band is measured from your frames, so the seam falls where the content actually changes.
Frequently asked
How do I stitch chat screenshots together?
Take one screenshot per screen as you scroll, then drop the whole batch into QuoteStitch. The header, input bar and status bar repeat on every capture, so they are dropped; what is left after the first frame is the part of the conversation that actually moved.
Does it work with WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, Discord or WeChat?
Yes. The tool does not know which app produced the screenshots. Anything with a repeating header and a moving message area behaves the same way.
Can I stitch a conversation that is hundreds of messages long?
There is no fixed limit, but a very long thread produces a very tall image. Export at 1x and expect a large file, or split it into two images at a natural break.
Does my phone already do this with a scrolling screenshot?
Sometimes. A built-in long-screenshot feature is faster for one native conversation, because you scroll and the phone captures as you go. It does not help once the screenshots already exist, it cannot capture inside in-app browsers or web views, and it decides where each screen ends. This tool starts from the captures you have and measures the seam from the content.
Are my chat screenshots uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account that could store it.
